Having been bullied excessively when I was younger I can identify with the anti-bullying stance and movement that is currently moving through the world. And as a bullied person I am sympathetic to the plight of anyone who is bullied… but I’m a bit torn in my reaction to the NFL scandal about a bullied player. Bullying is a sign of supreme immaturity and it’s wrong no matter who’s doing it. It’s wrong if you’re a law enforcement abusing power, it’s wrong if you’re in a locker room or a board room.
Keep in mind that I have not read all the particulars and don’t know all the details, but I will be digging for more information but just at first glance this is what hits me first.
On one hand… it’s grown men in the NFL… everyone talks smack, it’s a brutal game filled with big personalities. It’s manly… you need to be tough, physically and mentally. It’s FOOTBALL!!! We can’t let football become all touchy feely… men are men, let them be men.
On the other hand…. it’s the NFL!! What the hell do you have to do to make one of these rough and tumble, smack-talking hard-hitting behemoths walk away from a MILLION dollar contract?? I guarantee that kind of money buys a lot of patience from me…which makes me wonder how bad it had to be for this person.
