In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Familial Feasts.”
If I could honor or dedicate a holiday to someone other than mother and father’s day and I think there’s Grandparent’s day already. I think there should be more for the grandparents… so many grandparents are now playing the role of fathers and mothers well past the time they should be. They are denied familial rights when divorced and often caught in the middle of battles when children are used as pawns and to punish the other parent.
I’d make it so that grandparents got to spend time with the grandkids if they wanted, and a day off if they serve as parents. Flowers and weird old people diabetic candies… with cards and a day of pampering. People cooking for them and taking care of the grandparents.
If the grandparents are parents too, then it would be a chance to relax and get whatever makes them happy.

Kawanee was born in Alexandria Louisiana but her first real memories are of Russellville Arkansas. She's always loved to read, and has always had an vivid imagination. She grew up in a house where almost everyone read, they didn't need a TV although she could still be found planted on her butt in front of her grandma's TV watching cartoons on Saturday mornings.
She made up her first story with her mother when her cat died; it was about where pets go when they die. She continued to create stories from bad dreams she had and her dad would help her change nightmares to stories. They would sit up in a chair until the scary went away. He told her that: "Dreams, good or bad, are just stories your mind makes up. You are the author of your dreams; if you don't like them rewrite them. "
She was hooked and has continued to read and write stories drawing from dreams, sights and just pure imagination. She just recently decided she'd like to try and get published and fail than wonder what if.
Her story continues but where it goes from here is up to you, the Reader... She hopes you'll join her in finding out where her journey goes from here!

I agree – a day dedicated to Grandparents would be much appreciated. I was extraordinarily close to one of my great-grandmothers (the people in my family tend to live for a looooong time), and it would’ve been great to have had a day beyond Mother’s Day to recognize her for all that she’s done for the entire family

There is a grandparent’s day but it’s not as big as mother and father’s day. I just think there should be more.

I just discovered that Grandparents Day is the first Sunday after Labor Day. I had no idea! I don’t think I know anyone who celebrates it. I agree with you though, there should definitely be more.
