My Back Yard…

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Lookin’ Out My Back Door.”

I decided to go ahead and do this assignment today because I love my backyard and I’ll be losing it soon. We’re moving. I love my deck; I bought furniture for it and even helped stain it on a hot saturday afternoon. The deck overlooks my neighbor’s nice cool pool that I’ve yet to be invited to swim in, but who needs him anyway right?

So on to the assignment… describe to an alien from another planet? Hmmmm naw.. how about another country?

I’ve got a wide open yard where squirrels abound because of three, yes THREE, gigantic pecan trees flourish. For those who do not know what pecans are: They are nuts.. that look like a brain and they go in and on deserts and are sweet to eat right from the shell. The trees are also good for making furniture but I prefer the nuts. Not only do I have fresh pecans in the fall but I also have an apple tree so I can cut those puppies up and make them into pies and top them with Pecans! Om nom nom.

The previous owners have planted a rose bush next to the garage and it spread all over the place and looks like a spider growing roses from it’s legs. I meant to cut it back this spring and forgot, maybe I’ll do it before I leave and the next person can enjoy a nice full bush of pink roses instead. There’s also a big fig tree/plant which I haven’t figure out yet how to tell when they are ripe soo haven’t tried eating. The fig tree thing is home to a host of bunnies and birds and is ringed by some pretty flowers in the spring.

As if this wasn’t pretty neat and pretty to look at there’s also a muscadine vinyard-ette… it’s a section of fencing and if I was brave enough to fight the bees that have taken up residence there I could have fresh muscadines. What are muscadines? Kinda like grapes only not…. and they have a musky odor some people make wine or jelly out of them. Me? I eat em right off the vine…

My grass is thick and green and nicely trimmed and I have a nice big shade tree next to my driveway that lets the grass grow but also shades the house and deck from the sun. At night I can watch the fireflies flit over the yard and look straight up and see the stars. I love my back yard my only problem with spending time out there.. is that it’s South Carolina and summer. This means it’s hot and humid and bugs are EVERYWHERE…

I don’t do bugs….

Kawanee was born in Alexandria Louisiana but her first real memories are of Russellville Arkansas. She's always loved to read, and has always had an vivid imagination. She grew up in a house where almost everyone read, they didn't need a TV although she could still be found planted on her butt in front of her grandma's TV watching cartoons on Saturday mornings. She made up her first story with her mother when her cat died; it was about where pets go when they die. She continued to create stories from bad dreams she had and her dad would help her change nightmares to stories. They would sit up in a chair until the scary went away. He told her that: "Dreams, good or bad, are just stories your mind makes up. You are the author of your dreams; if you don't like them rewrite them. " She was hooked and has continued to read and write stories drawing from dreams, sights and just pure imagination. She just recently decided she'd like to try and get published and fail than wonder what if. Her story continues but where it goes from here is up to you, the Reader... She hopes you'll join her in finding out where her journey goes from here!
