False Love, By Delbert Hitt

False Love

“I love you,”
She said yesterday.
“I love you,”
And then turned away.

Come morning, she called,
And said, “We must part,
For some other man
Has taken my heart.”

Too often these words
Are spoken in jest.
With too little feeling,
Or thoughts for the best.

Those three little words
Can change someone’s life.
But when taken in fun,
They cut like a knife.

Love is a spiritual,
Physical thing.
It can soothe heartache,
Or strengthen it’s sting.

So love in truth,
If love you will.
If not, don’t lie
And say that it’s real.
